Today is the good day. Its nice outside, the problems i was having a school is working out, and everything feel the really great. I love the Lord so much, he is so good to me, Thanks Jesus!
Now back to business. I am in the process of making my second corset from a pattern I bought from ageless patterns, its the beginners corset. I really like the pattern. The instructions aren't as detailed as the Dore' piece, but I really want to incorporate some of the other things i have learned on this site.
I have been contemplating one particular issue. Boning the muslin. See, on the how to make a corset video, the instructor did not bone the muslins, and hers still looked really great. But at the same time, i want to be able to more accurately make corsets that fit my model's exact measurments. So I'm stumped on that. I feel like boning a muslin is so time consuming. But at the same time, it is also consuming when you have to make alterations to the corset after its 75% completed.
Also there is the problem of figuring out how much to increase each pattern piece by. I didnt have that problem on the dore' because all i had to do was cut out one size for the bust and another size for the waist. Pretty simple. However, this corset comes in only one size : 34/20/29.
I need to adjust the waist to a 31 and the hips to 29. I added 3/8 inch to the waist and it was wayyyy to big. it was like 41 lol. Im such a goofball. Ok, so i need to keep workin at it until i figure this formula out. Someone needs to write a "altering for dummies" article, it would really help lol. |

| my first corset |

Hey all,
I just started to make my first corset, and i must say it has been a real experience. At times, i feel really soothed, then there are times when i just want to scream when see how much i botched up this thing.
First of all, I didnt know how to sew when i started this project. It took me a whole day to figure out how to fill the bobbin and thread it through.
Second, I have a seam ripper, but i dont know how to use it, so many of my mess ups havent been fixed on my corset.
When i made my mock corset, or muslin, i realized that i would have to let out all the seam allowances from the very start of my real corset.
I also seem to keep cutting too much of the fabric when i try to trim the excess off. I trimmed too much off of my busk, and then it started to fall out. I had a very hard time trying to fix that. Since i dont know how to rip seams with out messing up my brocade, i just sewed over the mess. Its horrible, horrible stitching lol.
Im sure by now, im scaring you guys, but it actually doesnt look that bad. I should have it done in a few days, and i will post it up for you guys to see.
I seriously need sewing tips, i surely would apprecite it. |
